Hello! I am from the U.S.A. and have spent hours and hours and hours reading this site and am very grateful it is here.

Glass Mask is my first manga. My daughter reads a lot of manga, but I never had the patience for it. But a few weeks ago she suggested I watch the Glass Mask anime. She thought I would like it because I studied acting in college, but gave it up in my youth. I am a "failed actress." (lol) I was fascinated by the 51 episodes of the anime so much, but the ending was highly unsatisfying. So I thought I would check out the manga to see if the story continued. Little did I know at that time what a giant project it was going to be to find the story and learn all about Glass Mask.

Well, now two weeks later I have been immersed in the manga. I have learned many things about the manga world, including about scanilators and things like that. I have read 39 volumes in English, and 10 volumes in Japanese using synopses and reading this forum to help me understand. It has been a lot of work just figuring out where everything is and how to read it and which stories are official, so considering the time and energy spent doing that, I can't imagine how much time and energy has gone into producing this forum. Quite and accomplishment, which shows a lot of love for the series.

I sincerely don't think I will be able to survive until I know the end of this story.

This forum has gone quiet, but I thought I'd post my little note here and let you all know that I'm waiting with you all. Guess I'll just go out and live my life while I'm waiting for the end. I hope I still remember and care by the time the story reappears. I will probably be checking here from time to time.

Despite all the time spent here, I never did find that section "S"

From a sincere fan!

Hi Frescamari, welcome to the forum. I'm so glad that this manga has gained another fan. If only the mangaka would finish the story soon, it would be even better. I'm so curious to know what happens next.

Taylor, thanks for your response. I've read much of your writing all over this forum and feel like I know you, almost, although I, of course, am a complete stranger to you.

I have settled down now and the feeling of dying to know what happens next has subsided enough that I feel like I can live now.

In the meantime, to carry me over, after re-reading and re-watching Glass Mask several times, I have finally decided to try out some other manga too. This helped, except that now I'm also dying to know what happens in Skip Beat, although will have less time to wait to find out than for Glass Mask. After that I decided I'm only going to read manga that are finished from now on. Can't take this kind of waiting.

My daughter has been rolling her eyes because her mom is not supposed to be in to this stuff. So, I read when she's not around.

lol I'm so glad that you read Skip Beat. I love that manga and Glass Mask very much.

I think I had read over in the Italian forum that the magazine publication of Glass Mask might resume this year. Hopefully it's true. The waiting would have been much easier if only the English scanlation was coming out faster because volumes 38 through 49 are still untranslated. :nono: Still, I'm grateful that it's being scanlated at all.

Well, as I mentioned before, Glass Mask was my first manga, although I have watched some anime with my kids. I never ventured into the manga because it seemed like such a bother to get used to reading from back to front and right to left. But it was the Glass Mask desperation after the anime ending that made me consider reading the manga.

After reading Glass Mask, I said to myself, "Well, I really don't want to start getting in to this stuff, because it's very time consuming and it feels like it's even a little addicting." But I still had the dissatisfaction of not knowing what's going to happen to Maya and Masumi. So, I read it all over again, and then all over again. Then I discovered/found the live drama and watched that a couple of times.

After all that, I didn't want to start another manga because I thought, "Surely there can't be another one out there better than this Glass Mask. I think I may have made a mistake in reading one I liked so much first, because I'm sure none other will capture me like this has."

However ... after a while, even reading and re-reading and re-watching became a little frustrating. So, I figured, okay, I'll just find some other one to read to pass the time until that volume 50 comes out. I chose Skip Beat for two reasons: 1. I had watched the anime of that with my daughter and found it interesting but frustrating because it was open ended. It seemed that the story continued in the manga so that might be satisfying. 2. Skip Beat was suggested as one to read if you like Glass Mask.

There was SO much of Skip Beat that, had I handled it right, it surely could have lasted me until Glass Mask started publishing again. HOWEVER, this new addiction took hold and I could not put it down and I read through all of it in about 3 days, neglecting some chores along the way.

This is a whole new world for me, lol! I have now read about 5 of them that I have enjoyed immensely. I just finished Ouran High School Host Club and sincerely think I like that one as much as Glass Mask. I truly loved the characters in that one.

So, I guess there are other ones out there besides Glass Mask. It was never my intention to go this far. What a world I've discovered!

Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed reading your journey to discovering manga. :D My journey to Glass Mask was like yours. I watched the anime and fell in love with the story. After it didn't end conclusively, I went looking for the manga and what a pleasure it was to discover all the stuff that didn't make it to the anime. However, unlike you, Glass Mask wasn't my first manga. I think it might have been my sixth manga story. Still, even today I still rank Glass Mask and Skip Beat as my top favorites.

The problem with other manga is that the stories become too reminiscent of other manga stories. I feel that Glass Mask and Skip Beat, even if they have the Shoujo cliches in them, they do them well. With Skip Beat, in particular, I can tell that the mangaka had a well thought out plan in her story since the beginning and because of this, re-reading can lead to the discovery of details that I missed the first time or even the second time I re-read the story.

I haven't read Ouran High but I have watched the anime. I guess I haven't really read it because it seems more on the comedy side and I'm not really a big fan of romantic comedy or even a slight implication of reverse harem. I know it's not really reverse harem but one girl surrounded by a lot of guys is still something that I'm not partial to because I like more balance. Still, Ouran High is a very popular and beloved manga. It's definitely a HUGE favorite among manga readers.

Have you ever read Fruit Basket? People seem to love that one too. I liked it because the story and characters were very interesting and I shed tears a couple times. I also liked Basara, which is an older manga story but it has a host of interesting characters and the story itself was good.

However, the manga romance that I love the most by far is that of Masumi and Maya. For me, there is nothing that can compare to Masumi's love for Maya. And now that she's in love with him, I just want to see these two together and happy. Gambatte, you two!

Hello, everyone. I'm a new member here, and I am also a new fan of Glass Mask. I have discovered this manga very recently, just two or three months ago, but I was quickly captivated. I also discovered Francesca's blog dedicated to it and thanks to the great work she has done I got a lot of information about this story. (Thank you, Francesca!) It didn't take me long to be addicted too, and searching on the web I found the English scanlations of the first 39 volumes. Then I also found the anime and watched it twice. I must say I loved it too because it is so faithful to the manga unlike other anime versions I've seen. However, the manga is still much better and much more fascinating. I hope the rest of the story will be translated in English for more fans to read. I also hope the long awaited Volume 50 will be published soon since it seems it will bring the story to an end (hopefully). I admire all those fans who have known this manga for so many years and have been waiting so patiently for each new volume. I can't believe this story began in 1976 and 42 years later it hasn't finished yet.
This site is full of interesting things about Glass Mask and I'm happy to be here and join in conversations with other fans. I am from Greece and sadly in my country this manga isn't known, at least not to many.
I haven't read all 39 volumes, just scanning through them but watching the anime and reading Francesca's summaries gave me a pretty good idea of the plot and very soon I'll begin to read it thoroughly from the beginning. I already am hooked and that says a lot.
This is a wonderful love story and I must say Masumi is one of the handsomest and most charming men I've seen in manga.
